Tom Brady + buff chicken dip + 21 people + 1 adorable bulldog = 1 amazing party!

We have now had our first successful party! We fit twenty-one people into our tiny one bedroom apartment for the Super Bowl this weekend. After all my fears of spilled drinks and hearing complaints from people who would probably have to sit outside the viewing area of our TV, everything went smoothly. And now, we’re left with good food and an amazingly clean apartment. Maybe, we should have parties more often! Well, I don’t want to push our luck, but we did have a really good time. I have never been one to enjoy big parties, but I do enjoy hosting them. I guess I love cooking for others besides me and Gabe—not that I don’t strive for my husband’s admiration of my cooking—and I must admit that I like showing off my apartment.
Our friends' adorable bulldog puppy, Bullseye, taking a break from the party in our bedroom. Wish we could keep him!

Suddenly, it’s hitting us and the other people in the program (who affectionately refer to themselves as MEIMs) that we’ll be making one of the biggest moves of our lives in just a few short months. It seemed far away in August when they first started classes. But once the New Year came and went, it seemed a lot more real. Some of the MEIMs are already talking about finding apartments and renting trucks. I feel good knowing that we’re ahead of most of them when it comes to knowing things about PODs and boxes and bubble wrap. But when we all get to LA, we’ll all be thrown in it together.
I admit that it has taken me some time to warm up to all the people in Gabe’s program. I’ve come to realize, though, that besides the small group of friends that I have at work, these are really the only friends we have here. And they’ll be the only friends that we’ll have in LA. I’m not saying any of this to get pity. I know when my family hears this, they’ll say, “Come home! We will make sure you’re not lonely!” Yes, this experience has been lonely at times, but I guess what I really mean to say is that it’s been pretty amazing to see how so many different people from widely different backgrounds can bond so closely together when they realize that they’re all each other has. Remembering that we’re not taking this adventure on our own makes it all a little less daunting and a little more exciting.
So, as a thank you for one of the best Super Bowl parties ever, here’s to the MEIMs and what lies ahead!
